Epilogue

Epilogue is a newly revamped cafe situated within Prologue, the bookstore, in Ion Orchard mall. It not only has a relaxed ambiance but also allows for a nice view of Orchard Road, and gives you the easy access to literature within the bookstore. Epilogue uses a creative touch by piercing their light poles, for their ceiling lamps, through stacks of books.

We chose to sit by the window, overlooking the busy junction of Orchard Road. The furniture they have chosen for this cafe is in line with their style of a homely and cozy place where you can sit and read comfortably for hours.

With a minimum spending of $25, you can pick a book of your choice from the available selections.

Presentation of beef lasagna ($9) dish was lackluster. However, the taste was actually good besides the fact that the beef was a tad too dry. The tomato sauce was really tasty!

The smoked salmon sandwich ($12.50) was well balanced with smoked salmon and greens complimenting each other. The salad at the side lacked sufficient dressing but overall, it is one of the best smoked salmon sandwich I ever had!

Ice Lemon Tea ($6.50). For the price that it cost, it was honestly a disappointment as it was just purely lemon and unsweetened tea. We expected to be a little more value for money, other than just the portion.

The red velvet cake ($6.50) was nicely presented, and it had a taste that could match up to that. It was not too sweet, but was still able to bring out the slightly chocolatey taste. At the same time, the two layers of cheese in between allowed for a pleasant mix to add flavor to the cake.

Overall, the service and ambiance was excellent (ratings 4/5) and food was only good (ratings 3.5/5).

Raindrops Cafe

Raindrops Cafe is located at the back of *Scape with a cosy and intimate indoor setting, making diners feel at home. Once inside, light bulbs can be seen hanging loosely from the ceiling. There is also an alfresco dining area so diners have a choice between dining indoor or outdoor.

Mushroom Cabonara topped with Penne ($12). Blogger Daniel mentioned, "...the cream sauce was slightly on the salty side..." and I agree with him as I found myself gulping down cups of strawberry-infused water served by the waiter after having a few mouthfuls. This dish seems dry as well due to the scarce amount of cream sauce.

Crispy Salmon with Asparagus ($16). The salmon was cooked to perfection. It was soft in the inside and yet has a crispy exterior. The lemon butter sauce topped on it was not too sweet and complements the fillet really well. As seen on blogger Ashley's blog, it was mentioned that the salmon was well-cooked.

Fish 'N' Chips ($12). Have you ever eaten a plate of Fish 'N' Chips with lots of batter and has a strong fishy smell? Well, at Raindrops Cafe, you can cast your fear aside! Blogger Jonathan mentioned, "...some fish will make you lose appetite because it is cooked too oily or the fish is not fresh enough, but this fish was different, and I loved it." I share the same sentiment.

Overall, service and ambiance was excellent (rating 4/5) and food was good (rating 3.5/5).

Food For Thought

Food For Thought is a cafe which has an innovative interior - glass jars that originally contained spaghetti sauce are being hung upside down as decorations. They offer a variety of comfort food at reasonable prices. One of the highlights here has definitely got to be the pancakes!

There are two outlets and interestingly, the menu for the one at Singapore Botanic Gardens and 8 Queen Street is different.

One of the chef's recommendations, the banana and walnuts pancakes ($10), is too good to be true and probably does not taste like your typical everyday pancakes. As mentioned by ladyironchef, it is one of the best pancakes in Singapore and I could not agree more!

Prices of the some other pancakes ranges from $8 to $12.

On my second trip, I had grilled bacon and cheese ($10) and crispy curry-spiced chicken and spicy chilli fries ($18).

As seen from Alvin and Liza's blog, comments made on latter dish are positive and it is a recommended dish. However, after giving it a try, I found it disappointing because it was not as great as mentioned and tasted nothing close to curry.

Overall, the service and ambiance was excellent (rating 4/5). Besides the pancakes, food was average (rating 3/5).
